This is High Voltage

This Is High Voltage is a publication created by my team and me, fueled by a shared desire to create meaningful change within our community. The project centers on activating community voices by exploring how people interact with public spaces, local organizations, and one another, especially those whose perspectives are often overlooked or unheard.

COLLABORATION

Worked as the part of a collaborative design team to concept, design, and print This is High Voltage, contributing to publication layout focused on social issues found in our communities.

Our process began with direct community engagement. We connected with local organizations and installed conversation boxes in active community spaces, inviting individuals to anonymously share concerns, experiences, and ideas for change. These responses became a critical form of qualitative research, allowing us to identify key issues, recurring themes, and systemic challenges affecting the community.

Using these insights, we developed a series of provocative posters and visual interventions that were installed back into the community, encouraging dialogue and continued participation. I was specifically responsible for the print production, layout design, and typography for the project. I helped design and refine the publication’s grid system, typographic hierarchy, and visual rhythm to ensure clarity while preserving the raw, high-energy tone of the content. I also oversaw print decisions, which included paper choice, binding, and production methods.

The final publication synthesizes these voices, visuals, and insights. Community responses directly informed the content, tone, and structure of the publication, ensuring it functioned not only as a designed artifact, but as a platform for representation and advocacy. This Is High Voltage stands as both a record of lived experiences and a call to listen, reflect, and engage, using design as a tool for social connection and collective change.
