I started with the basic hand-drawn letterforms found in Geo Ham’s 1934 Grand Prix poster, closely looking at their proportions, weight, and sense of motion. These original forms served as the foundation for developing a specimen that maintained the speed and energy present in the original poster. Through refinement and iteration,
I adjusted spacing, curves, and structure to ensure consistency across the typeface. The resulting type specimen, Grand 34, translates the visual language of early motorsport into a contemporary display type.

Grand 34 is designed to feel fast, energetic, and powerful, drawing directly from the visual language of motorsport and the optimism of early 20th-century racing culture.

Inspired by Geo Ham’s 1934 Grand Prix de l’A.C.F. poster for the French Grand Prix, the typeface channels speed, motion, and national pride through bold, confident letterforms that feel constantly in motion. Grand 34 is a display typeface rooted in the graphic styling of 1930s European racing posters, particularly Geo Ham’s compositions and sense of movement. Ham’s poster captured the spectacle of the Grand Prix through exaggerated forms, aerodynamic shapes, and strong contrast, which are qualities that inspired the construction of Grand 34's letterforms. The typeface reflects an era when motorsport symbolized progress, modernity, and technological ambition.

Grand 34 is used throughout my website as a primary display typeface, defining my visual identity and emphasizing themes of speed, motion, and performance. By integrating the typeface into my digital presence, I translate these ideas into a contemporary, personal design system.
